Going Greek

... Yogurt I mean

photo from my recipes

I am an enormous fan of Greek yogurt. I've tried Fage, Chobani and Oikos (by Stonyfield) brands and I love them all! I buy a 2-cup container of it each week to throw into my smoothies or to eat as a snack. It is so rich and creamy you will swear you're eating something that is horribly bad for you but it is actually a filling, fat-less treat. The stats for Fage Total 0%:

Serving Size: 1 cup
Calories: 120
Fat: 0g
Cholesterol: 0g
Sodium: 85mg
Carb: 9g
Sugar: 9 g
Protein: 20g

Buying the plain stuff is great because you can add in your own toppings and control how much sugar is going into it! Things I add to my Greek yogurt:
  • Blueberries (any berries really!)
  • Agave nectar
  • Crushed graham cracker
  • Honey
  • Fiber-rich whole grain cereals (Kashi has a bunch of great fiber-filled cereals)
  • Nuts! Like the walnuts pictured above
I came across this great post on a vegan version of Greek-like yogurt over at Choosing Raw. If you are a vegan, WholeSoy & Co. yogurts are also really great (especially raspberry!). I had a vanilla-flavored WholeSoy & Co. soy yogurt today for lunch topped with a handful of blueberries and a Nature's Plus Lotta Apricotta bar on the side.

Probably not as creamy as the coco-gurt from Choosing Raw but still yummy.

Tomorrow I'm going to let you all in on one of my favorite canned soups (yes, canned). Maybe I will even top it with Greek yogurt?

With health,

Melissa
